through the screen

I have been experimenting with different perspectives and with different types of camera's. I decided one sunny day that I was going to shoot through the screen in my bedroom. I found the images to be interesting. I feel that I have grown quite a bit in the last year, especially with my photography and I will be sharing more frequently what I am doing. I am taking 3 photography courses this quarter; Color- where I will be shooting and developing color film. Social Documentary- where I will be confronting social issues. Alternative Camera- where I will be experimenting with different camera styles and creating/designing our own pinhole cameras. On top of that I am taking a life drawing course where I will be drawing from a live model.

Tomorrow I will set out with my newest camera a 1950s Argus Super 75! This will be my first time shooting medium format. Unfortunately I needed to convert 120 film onto a 620 reel before starting since 620 film was discontinued in 1995.

CALIFORNIA

The Long wait is over! Peter and I drove from Columbus OHIO to Los Angeles, we visited old friends and made new friends on our way. Peter stayed in Santa Monica with me for the first week and then moved to La Mirada with his new roomates! Santa Monica is a pretty hip area with very unique restaurants! Unfortunately I have yet to set up a bank account out here and almost everywhere is Cash Only. So anyway the plan for tomorrow is to work with the photographer that i moved to LA to work for, then to build my own bike... we will see how this works... considering my luck... probably wont work for cheap.. I dont have very much money so coming up with an inexpensive, yet quality bike will be very very difficult... :(

Photography Project 4 & 5

Assignment 4 Reaction to Place

Shoot at least three rolls of 36 exposure film. Speed will depend on what you plan on photographing. You must choose a partner for this assignment.

Exhibit 5 photographs each which present a response to a place. This may take many forms, including but not limited to, a conceptual response to space, literal representation, or an intuitive response. The photos must relate to each other in some way.

You will turn in (in a manila envelope labeled with your name):

All contact sheets

5 perfect final prints

A 1-2 page statement addressing the work

Assignment 5 Psychological Self-Portrait

The Photogram is a camera-less photograph made by placing an object or group of objects directly onto a sheet of photographic paper.

Bring objects to class. Use these objects to create at least 5 self-portraits. This is a hightly conceptual assignment, so think outside the box. Each photos must relate to the next and follow sequence.

You will turn in (in a manila envelope labeled with your name):

5 final prints (at least)

A 1-2 page statement addressing the work

Camera

So I have been looking to buy a point and shoot camera as well as a digital SLR. I hope to be soon posting tons of pictures.

For the time being we are almost half way through the quarter at Ohio State University. The sun is out people are happy and I am having a hard time keeping up with my photography projects. Currently I am in a Black and White photography class where we use the darkroom to produce our prints. I have a Nikon FM2 which works very well.

If anyone has any recommendations on either a point and shoot or Digital SLR then I am all ears.

Almost a month till Mikkel and friends come to America!
